Neuralink: Brain-Machine Interface

Neuralink is an American neurotechnology company making implantable Brain-Processor or Brain-Machine Interfaces(BMIs). It is founded by Elon Musk and others. Before going deeper, let's know more about Brain-Machine Interface.

Brain-Machine Interface

It is also known as:

• Brain-Processor Interface,
• Brain-Computer Interface,
• Neural-Control Interface,
• Mind-Machine Interface,
• Direct-Neural Interface, or
• Brain-Machine Interface

It is a direct digital communicational path between the brain and an external computing device.

Neuralink

The early versions of Neuralink will be a device to help paraplegics(Paralysis that affects all or part of the torso, legs, and pelvic organs) with simple tasks such as using iPhones and Computers without making any physical movement.

Neuralink Implantation and Working

Neuralink involves surgically implanting some components onto the surface of your brain. Wait, don't get shocked. Brain implants are not new, they are being tested and used since the 1970s.

Neuralink Team considers that idea of having a trip to the local neurosurgeon every time the Neuralink software wants to run an update takes away a glimpse of the appeal that having a superbrain might bring, so a large piece of Neuralink resides outside of your head, as a wearable behind your year. This wearable is named "Link", which includes software as well as battery. So, whenever you want to charge the battery you can easily remove the device to recharge. The same is with the software and processing, everything happens in the "Link". The internal implanted part just transfers the data to "Link" for further processing.

Neuralink and The Future

Elon Musk said Neuralink is not a mandatory thing. This is a thing you can choose to have if you want. This is something I think will be really important on a civilization-level scale. Neuralink wants to be a computer inside everyone’s brain, one that we don’t have to carry around in our hands, and that’s undetectable in use.

Why do you need a Smart Phone or a Smart Watch, when you will have everything in your brain. Neuralink can become bigger than Apple or any other existing tech giant.

The success of Neuralink will change the trajectory of future innovation. The speed of communication will also improve. When I am using my PC or Phone, my fingers speed limits my brain's speed. When I don't have to use fingers to transfer my brain's thoughts into the digital world, it will be so quick with the help of Neuralink.
