Some Interesting Facts About Chemistry

Chemistry is a fascinating science. There are many mysterious and unanswered things in this science. It might seem boring but it is an interesting subject.

So, here are some fun and interesting facts about Chemistry:

• Liquid air has a bluish tint, similar to water.

• Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide (CO2).

• There is about 200 grams of salt (NaCl) in the average adult human body.

• A pure element takes many forms. Like, diamond and graphite both are forms of pure carbon.

• Lemons have more sugar than strawberries.

• The chemical name for water (H2O) is dihydrogen monoxide.

• Liquid nitrogen boils at −196 °C.

•  Air becomes liquid at -190°C.

• Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, while oxygen is the most abundant element in Earth's atmosphere.

• Fish scales are commonly used as an integral part of lipstick ingredients.

• Oxygen gas is colorless but liquid and solid forms of oxygen are blue.

• Hydrofluoric acid is so corrosive that it will dissolve glass.

• Bee stings are acidic, while wasp stings are alkaline.

• Mars is red because its surface contains a lot of iron oxide.

• You cannot taste anything without saliva.

• Lightning strikes produce O3, which is ozone, and strengthen the ozone layer of the atmosphere.

• Chalk is made of trillions of microscopic skeleton fossils of plankton.

• Under normal conditions, oil and water do not mix.

• Hydrogen is the first element in the periodic table. It is highly inflammable.

• Helium balloons float because helium is lighter than air.

• 20% of the world’s oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rain forest.

• The only letter not appearing on the periodic table is J.

• Bromine and Mercury are the only elements that can stay liquid at room temperature.

• DNA is a flame retardant i.e., it doesn’t catch fire.

• Glass is actually a liquid, it just flows very, very slowly

• The human body contains enough carbon to provide "lead" (graphite) for 9,000 pencils.

• Bones, teeth, and pearl will dissolve in vinegar because it contains weak acetic acid.

• Vitamin B12 is the toughest total synthesis.

• Friedrich Kekulé got the idea of the benzene structure after a dream in which he saw a snake seizing its own tail.

• The only two non-silvery metals are gold and copper.

• One inch of rain is equal to 10 inches of snow.
