Why should we Cry?

We should cry to express our emotions. Crying generates peace. If you are really sad then try crying out loud, I am sure it can make a lot of difference. People who cry, are not too weak, they are strong and that is why they chose to cry. Crying is also considered good for the eyes. This can sound weird but it's true. Emotional tears are proven to have special benefits. Reflex tears are 98% water, whereas emotional tears also contain stress hormones which get excreted from the body through crying.

Why should we cry?

One should cry because:

1. Crying makes you more of a human and lesser of a machine.

2. It helps you express yourself to people you never thought you would.

3. It makes you feel lighter.

4. It helps you forget and move on from the past that was holding you.

5. It helps you give closure.

Scientific Perspective of Tears

Humans produce three types of tears:

  • Basal: The tear ducts constantly secrete basal tears, which are a protein-rich antibacterial liquid that help to keep the eyes moist every time a person blinks.
  • Reflex: These are tears triggered by irritants such as wind, smoke, or onions. They are released to flush out these irritants and protect the eye.
  • Emotional: Humans shed tears in response to a range of emotions. These tears contain a higher level of stress hormones than other types of tears.

When someone says about crying, they are referring to emotional tears.

Benefits of Crying

  1. Shedding emotional tears releases oxytocin and endorphins.
  2. These chemicals make people feel good and may also ease both physical and emotional pain. In this way, crying can help reduce pain and promote a sense of well-being.
  3. Relieving pain, oxytocin and endorphins can help improve mood. This is why they are often known as "feel good" chemicals.
  4. Researchers believe that crying could reduce the levels of these chemicals in the body, which could, in turn, reduce stress.
  5. The calming, mood-enhancing, and pain-relieving effects of crying above may help a person fall asleep more easily.
  6. Crying helps to kill bacteria and keep the eyes clean as tears contain a fluid called lysozyme.
  7. Crying helps to kill bacteria and keep the eyes clean as tears contain a fluid called lysozyme.

Disadvantages of Crying

Everything is good when it's within the limit. But, crying frequently can lead to several mental damages such as depression.

To heal this, try not to cry:

  • very frequently
  • for no apparent reason
  • to affect daily activities
  • uncontrollably
