What if Astronauts took off Helmet in Space

1. His head would be exposed to the temperatures of space, which is -455 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. The air in your lungs is FORCED out of your body due to the surroundings being a vacuum.
3. You will have 15 seconds before the oxygen in your bloodstream runs dry. Your circulatory system doesn’t know that there is a lack of oxygen, so it cycles blood throughout your body even if there is no oxygen. That messes with your system, especially the brain.
4. The radiation from the sun would hit you with a crazy intensity that would harm you even if you somehow managed to make it out alive.

Let's Figure Out in Detail

Think about a thermos bottle; there is a near-vacuum between the inner and outer shells, no medium to conduct the heat, only radiative transfer of heat between the shells. That’s why the contents remain cold or hot for so long. Of course, it’s not a perfect vacuum as is space.

Another way to think about it is the relative efficiency of conduction of metal vs air. Your oven might be 500 degrees and the rack at 500 degrees but you can put your hand in the oven without immediately burning your fingers; not so much for touching the rack!

The vacuum would cause the boiling point of water to near zero and so dissolved gasses would quickly begin to vaporize. Again not instantly but within a few seconds. The partial pressure of the gasses dissolved in your bodily fluids would cause the nitrogen to come out of solution causing nitrogen narcosis, the bends as experienced by divers so a pressure chamber would be required immediately. Again there would be a little time before this became fatal.

The oxygen in your red blood cells is chemically bound to hemoglobin so it would not immediately run dry’. The heart would continue to pump and the cells would continue to be oxygenated until it was used up. The brain can withstand a lack of oxygen for around 4–5 minutes before permanent damage occurs although unconsciousness would ensue almost immediately since the brain stores no oxygen or glucose for energy, unlike muscle cells which can survive much longer due to anaerobic metabolism. The brain needs about 25 watts of power to operate and receives about 25% of the blood flow from each beat of the heart.

Radiation would be intense but the helmet provides very little protection so the astronaut wouldn’t be immediately fried.
